    Upcoming events

Sunday September 12, 2010 - 1st day of classes and Registration

  • 2010-May-09

On May 16 OMJS will be holding a meeting to discuss the future home, curriculum, administration and, hopefully, the potential for lowering tuition for OMJS. We have several interesting options being considered and your input would be greatly appreciated. As parents of OMJS we can all have a say in the direction that the school takes in the next year. And for the board of OMJS this is a great opportunity to hear from you what keeps you at OMJS and what changes you might like to see in the future!

We have secured a qualified facilitator to lead the discussion and will supply refreshments to keep your energy up for the task at hand. We will start promptly at 9:40 am and end at 11:30 am. We strongly encourage you to be a part of this discussion so that OMJS reflects the direction you would like to see.

For your information before the meeting, it should be noted that our Mission and Vision at OMJS are as follows:

Mission: To offer a Jewish education aimed at connecting children with their Jewish roots and cultural heritage, and an opportunity for families to strengthen their ties to the Ottawa Jewish community.

Vision: That children who attend our school will deepen their understanding and knowledge of their Jewish heritage, and those families will feel more connected to the larger Jewish community.

I hope you enjoyed out Purim Carnival last week. Kudos to OMJS staff for making such a fun morning. It was great to see so many families volunteering and helping with the clean up. Thanks go to all of you as well.

Principal Miri requests that our students wear their OMJS T-Shirts on Sunday as OMJS is going to be videotaped singing “Happy Birthday to Israel”. This video will be played at the YOM HA'ATZMAUT celebration in the spring and it would be fantastic to view our students wearing their OMJS T Shirts for all to see. So please wear them if you can.

Feel free to make you own (blue with big OMJS letters down the side with a .ca at the bottom would be nice). If you don’t have one we may have some on hand to lend or sell as well.

One of the four mitzvot of Purim is to listen to the megilah both in the evening and again in the daytime. Because our school festivities will be on Purim itself, we will be offering a full megillah reading for parents, older siblings, aunts, uncles & alumni, etc. As usual, there will be an abridged reading for the younger students at the start of the carnival. Immediately following, you are encouraged to join us in the chapel in order to participate in the mitzvah. Please feel free to come in costume and bring your graggers!

This will be on Sunday, Feb 28, time to be announced likely about 10:30 am. This will be a fun experience for everyone.
