Hebrew
This is the extension of the reading and conversation DARKONIM program initiated earlier. Reading and comprehension fluency will be emphasized and reinforced with broader vocabulary developed.

Yiddishkeit
The students will gain a greater knowledge of Yiddish culture including Yiddish proverbs, folksongs, folklore and history of the Yiddish language. They will review verbs and translate stories from Yiddish to English and/or English to Yiddish, and learn songs corresponding to the Holidays.

Traditions
The objective of this subject is detailed in grade six, and the content to be studied is continued in the life cycle events, synagogue skills and Bar/Bat Mitzvah segments. The students will also be introduced to torah script reading , selected blessings and possibly the cantillation principles of Torah or Haftarah nigunim. They will also be expected to lead and read from the Hagaddah.

History
Modern Jewish History will be studied including Israel from the Birth of Zionism to the Present, the Holocaust, and early Canadian Jewry. "What is a Homeland?" will be explored and studied to reveal the strong connection between the people and the land. By exploring historical sources and contemporary data the students would be sensitized to the legacy of their past and its message for the future of people and the land of Israel. A "Travel Brochure" will also be developed by the students.

NOTE: As a Graduation requirement, the students are expected to write a research paper on a topic of Jewish interest , as determined by the Principal, for the Dr. Norman Barwin research award.
